We trust that each of you had a blessed and productive summer and that you enjoyed the seemingly brief hard-earned rest from work or studies! Now it's back to school again- and C & C!

We are again starting our college & career group , so whether you are a student or already in the working world, we welcome you to our meetings and trust that you will be encouraged through the study of the Word and establishing friendships through our fellowship in Christ. Mark Francois (a graduate of Toronto Baptist Seminary and currently pursuing his Masters of Theological Studies at U of T) will be leading our group meetings this year. We will meet this Saturday at 7 pm at the concourse of Jarvis St. Baptist Church (enter by the side door adjacent to the parking lot - we are at the corner of Jarvis St. and Gerrard St. E.) to kick the year off- we will have a time of study and a time to warmly welcome those who are new to the group, as well as get reacquainted with the others.

Joint College & Careers meeting with Richmond Hill Baptist Church

Please note that we are planning on going near the vicinity of Richmond Hill for this event- it will be a wonderful opportunity to meet other Christian students and young people at this church. We have done other events with them in the past and it has always been a profitable time having wholesome fun with other Christians!

Ultimate frisbee for those who would like to play or free time

End of the Year Picnic at Centre Island!

As the end of the term draws near, we want to celebrate another blessed year with you by having a nice time of fellowship at a picnic on Centre Island this Saturday. It is a bring-your-own picnic dinner, and the group will meet by the boat docks right on Centre Island. From there, we will walk to our picnic location.

- To get to the island, walk to the ferry docks at the very south of Bay St. and Queens Quay W. (right beside Westin Harbour Castle Hotel).
- The cost of the return ferry ride to the island is $6.50. Please note that three boats go to the island, but at different locations. You need to take the "Centre Island" one (NOT Hanlan's Point or Wards Island)- there are signs on the boarding gate.
- Once you are off the ferry, please meet the rest of the group on Centre Island right in front of where the boat docks. To meet everyone by 5:30, you can take the 4:45 ferry (it gets in to Centre Island by 5:15). We will have some balls, frisbees, and common games. Come out and enjoy fresh air, water, and sand this weekend!

It may rain this weekend, and if it rains on Saturday, we have an alternate activity- we will meet at the church at 5:30 pm and have a games and movie night instead. We will keep you posted on the weather forecast to let you know by Friday night what the final plans are.

We are continuing on the last half of Gen. 9 as we study the generations of Noah and the biblical and practical lessons we can learn from it. Please join us as we strive to be fed by the Word, continually grow in faith, and demonstrate Christian love and fellowship with one another in Christ.

**Special Announcement** - We are planning on going out for lunch as a group this Sunday, March 9 immediately after the morning service. We will gather everyone, and we would be greatly delighted if you could come and join our group so that we can get to know you better and be encouraged by each other!

Study on Genesis 6

Skating at Harbourfront Centre

Come and join us as we spend some time as a group enjoying the God-given gift of glorious winter weather by going skating! You don't have to be good at it- just have a sense of enjoyment and fun...and be ready for a few falls! If you plan to join us, you can either meet as at Harbourfront Centre at 6:30 pm(at Queen's Quay between York St. and Spadina Ave.- just go and find the skating rink- it's right at the edge of the lake all the way south) or meet at the church parking lot at 6 pm and walk down from there to Harbourfront as a group.

You can bring your own skates, or you can rent. Rental is $7 per pair (you need to show ID- either a driver's license or a credit card). After skating, we are having snacks and hot chocolate at my house- we can walk over as I live very close to Harbourfront. Please let me know if you plan to come to my house after so I can prepare enough snacks.

***We will not have a study at the church due to the skating event. Regular studies on Genesis 5 will resume on Saturday, Jan. 26 @ 7:30 pm.***

One-Day David Brainerd Retreat at Grace Bible Church, Cambridge

Our group is planning on attending the winter retreat at Grace Bible Church. The theme of this retreat will be "Beyond Private Faith: Living for Christ in All Areas of Life". It is a wonderful opportunity to spend a whole day with fellow brothers and sisters in Christ and be encouraged by the Word and its practical applications. The main speaker will be Jonathan Wellum, affiliated with Toronto Baptist Seminary, who will examine how we can take the foundations on our faith in all aspects of our lives, including work, school, home and relationships.

I need to register our group by Monday Jan. 28 with the organizers at Grace. If you are planning on coming, please let me know by Saturday, Jan. 26 at the latest as the organizers at Grace need to know numbers to prepare enough food. The cost of the one-day retreat is $10, including transportation, drinks, snacks and dinner. You need to bring your own lunch or go to one of the food places near the church.

We plan on taking the church van as a group and will leave the church parking lot on Feb. 2 at 8:45 AM to travel by highway to Cambridge. Please be punctual as we need to sign in before 10 am at Grace.

We are kicking off our first meeting this Saturday- please join us as we continue our studies in Genesis- we are doing Chapter 4 this week. We pray that the studies will help us grow deeper in our relationship with God as we look at fundamental principles necessary for our Christian walk as laid out in this first book of the Bible.

Skating at Harbourfront Centre

We are planning on taking advantage of the winter season and get better acquainted with each other by going on a fun skating excursion! Harbourfront Centre has a very nice rink with lights and music on Saturday evenings- come join us as we spend some time together! You are also welcome to join us afterwards for snacks at my house post-skating.

There are two options for those who plan on coming:

1) For those coming by TTC or who live near downtown, please meet at the Harbourfront skating rink at 6:30 pm (Queen's Quay and York St.)- it's right by the lake.

2) If you would like to meet at the parking lot at Jarvis and then proceed to the rink, Donald Vilneff (our leader) and a few others will be there at 5:30 and the group can walk down.

There are skates for rent there ($7)- you need to bring either a driver's license or visa card to as proof of ID to rent the skates. From there, we can go to my house (a 15 minute walk) for snacks and hot chocolate. If you plan on coming to my house after, please let me know ASAP so enough snacks can be prepared- I'd really appreciate it!

We are planning on an informal, fun night out relaxing and spending time with each other before people leave to go back home for Christmas. It's a good way to unwind too after exams! Please join us as the choir and the members of the primary and junior Sunday School sing about God's immeasurable love and grace manifested in the Christ of Christmas! It is a blessed experience to worship the Lord with God's people as we celebrate the wonder of our Saviour's humility and sacrifice, the One who fulfilled all of the Father's promises as foretold by prophets of old.

The skating party planned for Friday at Harbourfront Centre is cancelled until early January. We apologize for this, but we determined that since many people had conflicts with this date due to the busyness of Christmas and other church events, it is better to defer it at a time when more people can participate. So, look forward to having a wonderful time skating and having treats to eat post-activity at my house in January!

To those who have not yet paid, we will be collecting it on Saturday evening, so please bring it with you. The menu for the evening will be Greek (souvlaki) along with desserts and other treats. Godly Relationships

We continue to explore the meaning and the practise of biblical relationships- how to prayerfully discern God's will and wait on His timing, what to do in the initial steps of seeking out that person, and how to imitate Christ in every step- from its inception to its establishment.

Join us this Saturday for this important and encouraging study. We will be breaking off into two groups- the guys will be Donald Vilneff and the girls with Lynette Adams. Hopefully this will help foster lively discussion as well as learning how to have the right foundation for a Godly relationship, both from a guy's perspective and a girl's perspective. Please meet in the concourse at 7:30 pm, and then we will break off into our groups. Questions are welcome!

The student council of the seminary and C & C are hosting a joint Christmas banquet. There will be Greek food (chicken souvlaki), some games, and a gift exchange. The student council needs to determine how much food to order, so if you would like to come, please let us know by Saturday Nov. 24. The cost to attend is $13 (to be collected by Nov. 24 at C & C)- this includes the food. There will also be a gift exchange- please bring a small gift $5 or less in value if you would like to participate. -We are exploring biblical foundations as set out on the book of Genesis, and how it is applicable to our walk as Christians today.
-In light of this, we have explored biblical creation in the Genesis 1-2 account, and are now studying the biblical approach to Christ-centred and Godly relationships as set out in Genesis 2-3. We are doing this to understand how God meant relationships to be before the fall of man, how sin and the fall has affected it, and how we move forward.
-Join us for a stimulating study and discussion on a topic particularly relevant to Christian young people today. Come to this mini-series whether you are single, in a relationship, or married!

- For those coming to this retreat and have confirmed attendance with me, we are leaving from the church at 5:30 pm on Friday Nov. 2 and travelling to Cambridge via the church van.
-Since this is dinner time, we suggest that you eat beforehand or pack a dinner to bring with you.
-Billetting for the night will be assigned when we get there. Kindly bring the payment of $25 for the retreat to be given to the organizers upon arriving at Grace (cash or cheque is accepted: if cheque, please make it payable to Grace Bible Church).

November 2 @7:30 pm to Nov. 3 @ 9 pm- 4th Annual C & C David Brainerd Retreat - Grace Bible Church (Cambridge, ON)

- Our C & C group will be participating in this annual retreat (Friday evening and all day Saturday) at Grace Bible Church in Cambridge http://gbccambridge.com/ We had a very blessed and profitable time the last two years that our group has gone to the events as the issues discussed are very relevant to young people today. The speaker is Carl Muller, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in Burlington and a professor at Toronto Baptist Seminary.

-The theme this year is Not Ashamed- Why the Whole Truth Matters: A Look at Romans 1 and What it Teaches About the Gospel. The speaker is

-The cost for the retreat is $25 including the speakers, food for both days, and accommodation.

-Since this is an overnight retreat, we will be providing transportation from Jarvis St. Baptist Church to all those planning on coming. - Continue to join us as we study the book of Genesis. It is a very pivotal book, where promises of future hope in Christ first come to light in the Old Testament. Many themes and topics will be discussed, among them are the biblical account of creation, as well as relationships before and after the fall of Adam.

Saturday, Sept. 8 - Events of the Day

Welcome back, everyone! We are excited to begin fellowship in the fall term again with you. Our first meeting will be this Saturday- we have a few things planned for the afternoon and the evening, so please come out and join us!

1 pm

- Fellowship lunch- If you can come, please meet at the church parking lot. We will proceed to a restaurant (to be determined- it will be somewhere within walking distance) so that we can catch up with how everyone's summer went while noshing on some good food!

3 pm

- Meet back at church parking lot- we are planning on giving out Gospel tracts and talking to students around the Ryerson neighbourhood. Please plan on joining us in this important ministry. We will be having a time of prayer beforehand at the church so that the Lord will bless this endeavour. We are planning to be out from around 3:30 pm to 5 pm.

7:30 pm- Games Night!

-Since this is our first meeting, we are hosting a games night to get to know people in a relaxed and fun environment. What better way to welcome new and returning C & C members than a few rounds of rousing, challenging, and exciting games and some snacks!

-Games will be preceded by a time of worship and singing to give praise to the Lord for another year of opportunity to be with fellow young people who desire to glorify Him.

**Our regular studies will start next week, Sept. 15. We will be going through the book of Genesis, and will explore biblical foundations for topics relevant to young people both at school and in the workplace**

Singles Event - Grace Fellowship Church

We have been invited to attend a singles' conference/seminar called "Being Single to the Glory of God" at Grace Fellowship Church http://www.gfcto.com/ . The speaker will be Julian Freeman, a student at Toronto Baptist Seminary, who is involved in the young people's and College & Career ministry at GFC. The married couples of GFC are hosting this event and have invited other churches, as they would like to take the opportunity to serve single people in the church and show that they are loved and appreciated. The main purpose of this event is to receive teaching on how to live a godly life as a single Christian. Also, the other purpose is to foster interaction between other Christian singles!

We are planning on leaving as a group from Jarvis St. around 5:30 pm and will commute up to GFC using the church van. This week we have asked everyone to meditate on a favorite verse or passage, commit it to memory, and to make a deliberate effort to meditate on it regularly, throughout the day, for the whole week, so that when we meet this Saturday we would be able to share how God's word ministered to each person as they reflected and considered His word.

Please have Chapter 4 of A Crisis for Fellowship read, as we might move on to that chapter.

The C & C of Richmond Hill is inviting us to their pastor's home on Sunday, July 1 for an evening of praise, worship, fellowship, food, and fireworks!

The details:

- A BBQ Dinner in the Haynes backyard
- Worship/Singing Time
- Message - brought by Pastor Haynes or by one of his student contacts
-Evening Fellowship - which can include: - a bonfire in the backyard, roasting marshmallows, etc - Ping pong in the basement, games in the house if it rains - a scenic walk on the great, wooded nature trails just minutes from the house
- local Aurora fireworks

Since this will be in Pastor Hayne's home in Aurora, ON, the church van and one other car will be leaving the church parking lot at 4:30 pm on Sunday afternoon. C & C Summer Picnic and Barbecue at High Park!

Our group will be having its first picnic of the summer this year at High Park together with the C & C from Richmond Hill Baptist Church and Grace Community Church. We hope that this will continue to foster fellowship among other young people who are striving to live for Christ.

The tentative schedule of the evening is as follows:

6-6:30 pm Games/sports for early arrivals
6:30-7 pm Welcome and ice breakers
7-8 pm Dinner and social
8-8:45 pm Songs and testimonies
8:45-9:30 pm Mini group prayer/social/more sports

Since the leaders of the group are providing the food and cooking, we kindly request that if you are planning on coming, that you respond ASAP and no later than Wednesday, June 13 to help us assess how much food is needed. The cost to help cover the food is $4.

C & C will continue to meet over the summer to encourage young people who are here in the city. We will be studying the book "The Crisis for Caring", which discusses the true meaning of Christian fellowship as based on the pattern of practise by New Testament believers in the Scriptures. We will also have opportunities to have relaxed get-togethers, and an upcoming picnic in High Park with other College & Career groups (Richmond Hill Baptist and others) in mid-June, so stay tuned for further announcements!

Our final event of the year will be a fun, fellowship-filled, friendly game of bowling! We will be leaving from the church parking lot at 7:30 pm. - Come and celebrate our joyful hope in our Saviour's resurrection on Easter Sunday! We will be having an Easter sunrise service together with students from TBS. It will start at 6:30 am in Allan Gardens, but please meet in the church parking lot at 6:15 am so that we can start on time.

TBS and C&C Movie Night

The student council of TBS is organizing a movie night, with films based on Jim Elliot's moving and powerful testimony as he and fellow missionaries attempt to bring the Gospel to to the violent Woadani tribesmen in Ecuador in 1956.

We will watch a documentary from 6-7 pm about Jim Elliot, and then the feature movie, "End of the Spear" (released 2006), chronicling the aftermath of the missionary journey, will be shown from 7-9 pm. There will be refreshments during the evening's events.

We encourage you to come and join us as we view the amazing impact these missionaries had on the people to whom they brought the Gospel, and hope that it also spurs you to do the same in whatever sphere you are in.

Marmora Weekend Retreat - Friday, March 9 - Sunday, March 11

- We are planning on having a winter retreat to Marmora, Ontario (2.5 hrs northeast of Toronto), Donald Vilneff's hometown. If you haven't been there, it really is beautiful- lots of wooded hills, countryside as far as the eyes can see, and bright, clear skies at night (you can actually see stars!). It is imperative that you e-mail me ASAP this week if you intend to come as Donald has to arrange transportation and lodging there.

Details:
- There will be a nominal cost of $10-$12 to cover the transportation expense, as well as to help offset food and lodging.
- We will be leaving from the church parking lot between 5:30-6:00 pm on Friday, Mar. 9, returning on Sunday evening (Mar. 11).
-Since there are lots of outdoor activities to be done (sledding, exploring the farm and barn, winter walks, bonfires, etc.) please make sure to bring appropriate winter attire, including sturdy boots for snow/mud.
- A series of studies will be conducted by Donald, and various activities and games will be planned for the weekend.
-We will be attending church there on Sunday morning at Madoc Baptist Church.

TBS and C & C Worship and Photo Scavenger Hunt- Sat. Feb. 17 @ 6 pm

*Please join us for a time of worship with the students from Toronto Baptist Seminary and others from C & C.
*There will be a fun Photo Scavenger Hunt following the worship time- teams will be given a list of items to take pictures of on a timed hunt. Please bring digital cameras, if you have one (preferably one with video mode), and USB plugs to attach to the computer if necessary.

*We will be viewing the photos on a slideshow after the allotted hunt time along with some cookies and hot chocolate.

*Prizes will be awarded for the winning team!

Next week (Feb. 24), our leader Donald Vilneff will start a series on the Scriptures- its canonicity, doctrine, why there are different translations, and other relevant topics which some have raised and have queries about. We will return to Colossians again following this brief excursion.

9:30 pm - Sledding at Riverdale Park

We WILL start the C & C meeting promptly at 7:30 pm to allow for enough time to do the study and to have fellowship time, as well as accommodate the sledding activity later on in the evening.

If you have any sledding equipment (ie. toboggans, saucers, mats, discs, GTs, etc.) please bring them so that all those interested in coming can share- there are some sleds in the seminary houses, but more is always better!

Riverdale park is about 15-20 min. east by walking, and has a very large toboggan hill (Phil and I have discovered an even larger one, about 8 x larger than the one we traditionally go to every year, and it's at the bottom of the classic hill and over the bridge further east- 5 min. away).

The theme for this retreat is Living for Christ in Our Post-Modern World. The speaker will be Kirk Wellum, a professor from the Toronto Baptist Seminary.
Cost for the retreat is $15, and includes the speaker, activities, snacks, lunch and dinner. Transportation to Cambridge will be provided using the church van, so it is imperative that you let me know ASAP if you plan on coming to this retreat so that we can accommodate everyone.

David Brainerd Retreat - Grace Bible Church, Cambridge

The main activity for this week for C & C will be the Brainerd retreat in Cambridge.

The specifics:

Those that have confirmed they are coming - we are leaving on Friday evening, Nov. 3 at 5:30 pm - meet at the church parking lot by the white Jarvis St. van.
Please be as punctual as possible as it is rush hour and we have to take the Gardiner to get to the church.
Since we are leaving at supper time, I suggest that you either eat beforehand or take a bagged dinner with you as there is no time to make a stopover during the trip to the church.
Please bring your $25 cash or cheque (payable to Grace Bible Church) for registration that evening.
Billetting information: The organizers have mentioned that there is no need to bring blankets/sleeping bag for the guys. The girls, however, need to bring either blankets or a sleeping bag as a large group of girls will stay over a lady's home. Remember to bring warm clothes, toiletries, etc. for the overnight retreat.
We will be back Saturday night, Nov. 4 after the retreat events finish that evening - expect to be back in Toronto around 11 pm.

C & C is joining the youth of the church for our first Praise & Worship Night. It will be at Greenway Chapel, off the concourse - enter by the side doors by the parking lot.

Come and join us for a wonderful time of fellowship! There will be a time of singing, as well as one of our C & C members giving a presentation about his mission trip this summer to Soweto, South Africa. Opportunity for Evangelism and C & C Weekend Retreat

Evangelistic outreach to students - one of our goals this year is to promote evangelism to young people, especially those that attend the colleges and universities within the area. One of the TBS students, Paul MacDonald, conducts this ministry by engaging listeners in an interactive presentation. Please support this vital outreach- the team is going out on Thursday afternoon (Oct. 19). Meet at Greenway Chapel (off the concourse) at 1 pm. Donald Vilneff, our C & C leader, will be there to direct those who are able to come and those present will leave as a group to go to one of the school campuses.

***3rd Annual David Brainerd Retreat*** - This will be held at Grace Bible Church in Cambridge from Nov. 3-4. As this is an overnight retreat, transportation and accommodation will be arranged for those who can attend. The cost is $25 and includes the meals and accommodation. Our group needs to be registered by next Friday, Oct. 27, so please let me know by Wednesday, Oct. 25 if you are planning to attend. Have a wonderful time as you celebrate Thanksgiving and share your blessings this past year with family and friends. We know that a lot of you are going home to spend time with loved ones (and of course, a few great home-cooked meals!), so do enjoy your weekend and time spent at home.

For those of you who are not going home but want to experience a weekend retreat in the country, our C & C leader, Donald Vilneff, has an open invitation to anyone who is free this weekend to go to his lovely and picturesque hometown in Marmora, ON. It is east of Toronto and near Kingston. The lovely fall colours there must be a sight to behold, and the countryside is replete with gently rolling hills (the hike around the property is always a great experience!) and bubbling streams. Please contact him by e-mail: donaldvilneff@hotmail.com for more details, preferably on or before Thursday, Oct. 5 so that transportation and lodging details can be arranged.

Those that are in the city this Saturday, Oct. 7 are welcome to join us for dinner at Swiss Chalet on Yonge St. and Gerrard St. W. We are meeting at the church parking lot by 7:15 pm and planning to leave by 7:30 pm to walk over to the restaurant. Please feel free to join us at the restaurant if you will be delayed. As you enjoy the profusion of shades reflected in the leaves, the amber light-dappled afternoons, and the crisp tang of the autumn air, take a moment to be still and medidate on the Lord's goodness, faithfulness, and providence evident in the changing of the seasons. He who is unchanging and eternal truly deserves our praise for the wonderful works of His hands manifested in all His creation.

We are continuing to meet as we study the book of Colossians this Saturday, Sept. 30 at 7:30 pm at the church concourse. It is a time of refreshment as we immerse ourselves in Scripture and enjoy blessed fellowship and a fun time with other students and young professionals. Please plan to attend our meeting!

Our First Meeting!

Important announcements for this Saturday, Sept. 16:

Fellowship Lunch: between noon and 12:30 pm- please meet at the parking lot of Jarvis Street Baptist Church. We will all go for lunch as a group to Korean Grill House, on the northwest corner of Yonge St. and College St. $8.99 per person for all-you-can eat lunch. If you've never been, it's a great experience- you get to grill your own food on the table!
Around 3 pm or so, we will proceed to Ryerson campus as a group to hand out gospel tracts and flyers and invitations about C & C and the games night on the same evening. We will provide you with directions as to where is best to distribute them within the campus.
After this (around 4 pm or so) we will meet briefly at the church for a C & C planning meeting to discuss objectives, outreach and ministry - please plan to be there to bring your suggestions forth so we can commit its direction to the Lord in prayer.
We are then formally opening C & C this year with the games night at 7:30 pm at the church concourse. Please enter by the rear door from the church parking lot. Bring some games you feel like playing!

The Lord was truly gracious in sustaining each of us in our summer activities, and as we return this fall, we trust that He will continue to direct us in our endeavours by His providence.

We will commence our meeting on Saturday, September 16th. Please join us for a fellowship lunch (more details to be provided soon) at 12 noon followed by a brief planning meeting and prayer time to commit our efforts this year to the Lord. We will then be going to Ryerson to hand out tracts/brochures with the Gospel and information about our group to encourage other young people to join us in fellowship. We will then meet back at the church at 7:30 pm to have a time of games and enable those who receive our brochure at Ryerson to get to know us and our group.

Please be in much prayer for these efforts!
